MAYODAN

Small Town Charm
With a population of just under 2500 people, Mayodan is straight out of a movie set depicting the typical small-America town with friendly residents, parks, churches, rivers, shops, and restaurants, all within walking distance. We're one of those "everybody knows your name" places. Despite our small-town feel, Mayodan is ideally situated 35 miles north of Greensboro, providing easy access to major interstates and airports. How did Mayodan get its name, you ask? We're nestled neatly between the Mayo and Dan Rivers. Why complicate matters?

Big Fun
This quiet little town won't lull you to sleep. Mayodan is rich with recreational activities. You can find plenty to do at one of Mayodan's parks. Farris Memorial Park http://www.townofmayodan.com/play/fun/ is comprised of 270 acres of open land, forests, and athletic fields. Amenities include tennis courts, walking trails, a concession stand, a public mountain bike trail, and picnic shelters. If you are a golfer, you can hit the range and tee-up a few, or if your short game needs work, there is also a putt-putt course. Mayo River State Park is a tranquil spot for a variety of events or family gatherings. You can go kayaking or tubing on the river, or hike one of the well-marked hiking trails.

Hayodan

Here in Mayodan, we've found a fun way to celebrate the commencement of the fall season. We created a community-wide event we've branded "Hayodan." Small and large businesses, as well as government entities and others throughout the community, design and decorate large hay bales, and display them as public art. Everyone then tours the town to find their favorite.

History
If you visit Veterans' Memorial Park, you'll find the "Mayodan Cannon," a World War I cannon presented to the community in honor of Mayodan soldiers who served in World War I. In the 1960s, the cannon was sold and moved to Lexington, N.C., but was eventually tracked down by a World War II soldier and returned to Mayodan.

The Museum and Archives of Rockingham County (MARC)  http://www.themarconline.org/index.html appeals to history enthusiasts of all kinds. There is an abundance of exhibits, archives, and architecture to admire, along with historic tavern tours. The MARC historic complex shows a fascinating snapshot of Rockingham County's History. You can experience the smell of a tobacco barn, see Native American artifacts, and learn how rivers sustained life by providing transit for people and goods.

Friendly People - Not So Friendly Pests
Despite the beauty and tranquility of Mayodan and the welcoming nature of our residents, we have our share of unwanted pests. Abundant greenery, lush grass, mature trees, and warm, moist air; all the things that make our scenery attractive, are the same things that bring unwanted pests. Ants, termites, mosquitoes, rodents, spiders, and snakes all call Mayodan home. These creatures love it here as much as we do. We want you to feel welcome in Mayodan, which means making pests unwelcome. At Cook's Pest Management, we strive to make your home or commercial property, pest-free.
